About Plain Car Tools
Plain Car Tools is a small, independent set of car calculators and lookups run by the Plain Printables brand. We build simple pages with as little clutter as we can.
Where the data comes from
- VIN details: NHTSA vPIC (Product Information Catalog and Vehicle Listing) API, queried when you decode.
- Recalls: NHTSA Recalls API, queried when you search.
- Tire and gear results: standard formulas shown on each tool page. No outside data.
Limits
- Recall results are for a make, model and year, not your exact VIN. Not every vehicle in a campaign is affected. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a dealer.
- NHTSA data can be incomplete or change. We show it as NHTSA publishes it and don't guarantee its accuracy.
- Calculator results are estimates, not mechanic advice.
- We aren't a government site.
How we pay for it
Ads (Google AdSense). Some tools may ask for a free sign-in by email after a few uses; that email is only used to send you a sign-in link.
